Talk To The Animals: Zoo Baby Bedding In The Nursery

March 16, 2010

The number of animal-themed baby bedding now available to shoppers who are rushing to finish a nursery is positively dizzying, leaving many feeling bewildered as they struggle to zero in on a specific design for their little one. Some parents find themselves torn between a few very different linen ensembles with no idea how to choose, for instance, between jungle creatures and barnyard dwellers.

Zoo baby bedding may be a solution to your problem, since the theme obviously combines a vast array of images that might not otherwise be placed together, so you will be able to combine those cute and cuddly depictions of jungle lions with farm cows, which is certain to create a very joyful space indeed.

Baby boy bedding that draws on a zoo motif is offered in a wide array of colors and styles, so it is best to think a bit about what sort of mood you wish to establish in your little boy’s nursery. If you want to fashion a quiet and serene space you will find a number of zoo collections that use the theme in an understated way, employing prints with small animal images in subdued colors.

Those who want a happily raucous atmosphere will find many suitable linens that combine bright bold colors with oversized appliques of every conceivable creature known to humanity. No matter what approach you take as you begin your search in earnest, concerns about your decorating budget are liable to surface repeatedly as you attempt to procure beautiful nursery gear without going broke.

Crib bedding can be obtained for a reasonable price, as long as consumers are willing to do a little comparison shopping. It will swiftly become apparent that purchasing bedding as part of a well matched set is the best way to avoid a complete economic meltdown without compromising your vision of the perfect zoo themed room for your beloved son.

Crib sets have grown extremely popular with decorators in recent years for a couple of separate reasons. First, they are shockingly cost-effective, since they bundle together all bedding, and often include a host of matching accessories. In addition to their affordability (many sell for less than $200.00), these attractive ensembles spare mothers and fathers the stressful experience of trying to mix and match linens, leaving them free to enjoy the experience of preparing for their son’s arrival.

Baby boy bedding with a zoo theme can be found in many shades and styles, making it important to consider the kind of feeling tone you’d like your baby son’s nursery to reflect. The prospective parents would find out that for the decoration of a beautiful and eye-pleasing room for their little baby the zoo themed baby bedding sets are available in a wide range of color prints with the little images of animals thereon in various colors matching to those images.

If you want a happy ad vibrant atmosphere, then get any of the many sets that use over-sized animal appliques against a background of bright colors. As you start your research, no matter how you go about it, you’ll find yourself thinking about the expense and how to decorate a lovely nursery without breaking the budget.

Designers have become increasingly fond of bassinet assortments recently for a variety of reasons. Of primary importance, they’re amazingly affordable, combining all the necessary linens and frequently containing lots of coordinating accessories, too. Many of these sets sell for less than two hundred cucumbers, and they also make it easier and simpler to get pieces that all match each other, so that you can concentrate on other arrangements for your son’s arrival.

Understanding Autism Symptoms

March 16, 2010

As autism is a disorder of the nerves and their development, resulting in some form of impairment in the social and communicative skills of the individual, the autism symptoms of each child will be different. Autism symptoms are normally displayed by children in their first couple of years of growth and development, and require a strong observation to pick up on. However, with patience and good observation parents are able to detect the first signs and symptoms of autism.

Parents tend to be the first ones to notice autism symptoms, since they spend more time than others with the child. What is important is for parents to understand the symptoms in order to better identify the nature, and the reasoning behind these being acted out.

Early diagnosis of autism can help in early assistance and support being provided to the child, which can help in skills and abilities being improved over the years. This is essential if some form of communication and self-help needs to be instilled in the child with autism symptoms, as no cure exits.

Some of the symptoms that parents should be on the lookout include the following:

• If a child is showing a great deal of difficulty in learning language or oral communication. This is a common autism symptom, where the child is unable to babble or speak a single word, even at an age of 2 years

• If a child does not show any form of appropriate response to a gesture. This could be anything from making eye contact with the respective person, or showing a degree of resistance to being cuddled or picked up. The symptom here to look for is a child being out of tune to the world, and seeming to be in his own environment altogether

• Another symptom is where the individual shows a lack of understanding for another’s feelings. So if a joke is being shared, or tears are being shed, there is the same response on both counts; the response normally being inattentiveness or a blank face

• For a child who is unable to play with other children or shows a lack of ability to be more cooperative with other children, shows some level of autism

• A child crying excessively or throwing tantrums without reason can also be considered as an autism symptom

By no way are the above stated to be hard and fast autism symptoms, as there could be other reasons for some of them. But all of them put together should give parents some understanding of seeking assistance from medical experts in regards to their child’s individual behavior. The child’s doctors will be able to further test and then determine if there are any signs of autism in the child.

All parents should keep in mind the above autism symptoms when caring for their child in the early years of development. By having an understanding of autism symptoms, the chance for early prognosis and initiation of support can prove quite beneficial in the later years of the individual.

What Are Some Signs of Autism?

March 16, 2010

Autism is considered as a disorder of the nerves and their development, which results in a certain degree of impairment in social and combative behavior of the individual. Autism signs are normally displayed by children when they are around two or three years of age, with many medical experts relating to it having a strong genetic base in terms of some disorder with the genes.

There have been numerous hypotheses of autism signs developing among children who have had some exposure to dangerous environments, like heavy metals in the atmosphere or environment, dangerous pesticides being sprayed around, as well as certain vaccines provided at a young age. However, as autism signs are developed quite early on, there is the rare suggestion of it being more a birth defect.

Autism signs develop gradually over time, and need a keen sense of observation to be able to make a sound assessment. In numerous cases of autism, early intervention and support has helped give autistic individuals the necessary skills to undertake self-care and improve their communication abilities; there is no known cure for autism.

With almost 2 percent of children suffering from autism around the world, it is a good idea to make yourself aware of the autism signs to be aware of, especially if you are a parent or expecting to be in the near future. The earlier one can diagnose and begin treatment, the better the chances of improvement for the individual suffering from the disorder.

Some of the autism signs to look for are:

• Child at the age of 1 not able to talk or babble, or point or make gestures that are evident of some meaning

• By the age of 16 months, the child is unable to speak one word, or offer any form of speech

• Child does not respond to his/her own name when called out by anyone

• There is poor eye contact, such that the child seems to constantly shy away from looking at an individual when either saying something or doing something

• A lack of smile, even when something sweet or funny is said

• Child showing a lack of knowledge of how to play with toys as per their identified usage

• An excessive nature in lining up his/her items, toys or other stuff

• Child shows particular affinity to one object or item, causing great commotion without it

You cannot take the above as concrete autism signs, as there are likely to be other explanations for some or most of the things stated. However, these are the most common autism signs witnessed by parents, and due to their usual nature, can get sidelined as something not needing further attention.

Parents should be careful at all times, including prior to birth. Once the child is born, they should keep an eye out for these autism signs so that an early diagnosis can be made. After all, knowing what to look for and what to make of it is half the job done!

Educational Children’s Toys

March 15, 2010

There is good news from the children’s toy industry and that is there are so many great products that your children can have fun with and learn at the same time. Is that not what every parent dreams of with a combination of both fun and learning with the extra-added bonus of convincing the child that this toy is only fun, that every parent desires? Many of the parents across this great nation have been assaulted with a riot of violent video games that seemingly have no end in both their barbarity and vulgarity.

Traditional Kitchen Play Sets

The most beneficial toys that promote a child’s early learning developmental skill-set can be found in play sets and creative activities that promote learning. The traditional kitchen play set and any replication of a furniture setting of that manner has proven to be only beneficial to the child’s developmental apparatus. When a child is allowed and even supported through the procurement of such early learning tools and actually have fun playing with them, the sky is the limit on both emotional content and parental approval. It is every parent’s heartfelt desire that their child learn and not be impacted by anything that has a chance of retarding that growth cycle.

Putting a Roof over Kids Head and Clothing and Feeding and Loving that Child

While it is quite a difficult task to both enlist a direct association to learning and fun with children’s toys in that child, it is nonetheless a very important endeavor and one that needs to be taken very seriously by the parents of the world. Too many times parents are so busy with their own lives today and feel as if putting a roof over the kids head and clothing and feeding and loving that child is more than enough in their parental role. This just opens the door for store-bought babysitters such as Xbox and PlayStation game consoles to be purchased and before a family knows it, separation and disintegration are allowed into the home. This is not an attack on video games just an attack on the video games that are played for over eight hours a day every day by an ever-growing population of young children. This is not a good atmosphere for a child’s early learning skills to be developed and the very same hand eye coordination set that the videogame industry are promoting as learning tools are the exact same ones that playing stickball in the street gave for so many children of the 30’s and 40’s.

There’s Nothing New Under the Sun

The old saying is ‘there’s nothing new under the sun’ and when it comes to early childhood developmental learning tools in the form of games and toys, no words ring so true. When children are given an option between physical fun and intellectual fun in the form of video games it is far too easy for them in this 21st century micro-fast, efficient world to choose the path more-traveled and far easier. What has to be done is that parents must take a more active role in their children’s home Interior gameplay function and limit the amount of time that the child spends interacting with these bought babysitters.

Consider the “Cry it Out” Method to Help Your Baby Stop Fighting Sleep at Bedtime

March 15, 2010

Many new parents wonder then sleeping through the night will become a part of their baby’s routine. You cannot compare babies because they are all individuals. The technique that works for one baby may not work for all. All you can do is trust yourself, love your baby just as she is, and do your best.

The Method is “cry it out”?

This doesn’t mean that you let your baby cry it out for that specific amount of time without offering her any comfort. Any method of getting babies to sleep by crying it out is referred to as “Ferberizing” by many parents, which is a method set out by Richard Ferber.

The Ferber Method

You should first wait until your baby is ready to begin sleeping through the night. This usually happens when the baby is between 4 to 6 months. Each child is unique, so it may vary. If you get too much resistance with this method, wait for a few weeks before trying again.

1) When your baby is still awake but sleepy, put her in her crib.

2) Say goodnight to your little one and then leave the room.Once she starts crying and you have already left the room, allow her to cry for a specific set of time, about 3 minutes.

3) To reassure her, return to her room for about 5 minutes, and pat her gently and lovingly. Don’t turn the light back on. A voice that is quiet and soothing is best when speaking to your baby. Avoid the temptation to pick up your baby. Leave the room while your baby is still awake even if she is crying.

4) Remember, don’t go back to baby’s room for 10 minutes and follow step 3 again, making sure you stay out a while longer. Be sure to leave the nursery before she falls asleep.

5) Continue these same steps until your baby is asleep even when you are not in the room.

6) Later, if your baby wakes up, follow the same routine as outlined in steps 2, 3, and 4.

7) Every night increase the amount of time you make to your baby’s room. Your baby will begin to sleep on his own, according to Ferber, by night 3 or 4, and no later than day 7. Try this process again in a few weeks, if she is still not sleeping on her own after several night of this.

Training your Baby to Fall Asleep without Using the Cry it Out Method

Perhaps you do no like the idea of having your new little one cry herself to sleep all by herself. Besides the cry it out method, there are other methods available. Some of the other methods involve a more gradual approach that will involve a few less tears.

- During the day, make sure she gets enough to eat. Learning that she needs to eat during the daytime and sleep at nighttime is something she will soon understand. If your baby is not awakened by hunger, she will probably sleep through the early morning hours.

- It is important to establish a regular naptime schedule for your baby. This will help keep her sleep schedule regular.

- Around 6:30 or 7:00 p.m., put your little one to bed.M. Keeping your baby awake longer will not make her more tired. For your baby to sleep may actually become harder.

- Stick to a regular bedtime routine. Try beginning with a bath, followed by a storybook, a lullaby and then bedtime.

Just follow your heart when you are deciding which method is best to help your little one learn to sleep through the night.Remember that this too, shall pass.

Children`s Thermometer Review

March 15, 2010

There is nothing more important than the health and safety of babies and children. When they get sick parents often panic and hope that their child does not have a fever. High fevers in children have been associated with some pretty scary illnesses.

Although not every fever is going to be serious it is important to be able to have a thermometer to check for fevers and give medicine and seek medical attention if the fever is extremely high or does not go away.

There are many different kinds of thermometers to get for kids. Some are fairly high tech, while others are more old fashion and simple. While electronic thermometers will give you digital and accurate results, they require a battery to operate. And simple old fashion non-digital thermometers may not be battery operated, they do take longer to read and it can be harder to see the results.

Safety 1st prograde thermometer is a thermometer that is designed for many uses. It has an auto sensor and can recognize each tip; for the rectal, underarm and oral. This device can give a five second reading and has ten memory recalls with the temperature and time. It also has a clean me alert signal. This product will flash with a red bar when a fever is present, which takes out any guess work, which is quite handy if a child wakes in the middle of the night.

The summer infant grow with me ear thermometer is a great one to have. It has two probe tips for extra sanitation, and it was a fever alert glow light for easy viewing. This thermometer comes with 12 memory storage of past fever amounts and times.

Safety 1st hospital choice thermometer gift set is an ultra fancy one to have. It comes with probe cover free technology for rectal, oral or underarm. The tips are also cleanable instead of having to buy them and keep reapplying. This device can also give a three second reading for even faster results.

Safety 1st Accu-Touch forehead thermometer is a simple one to have. This product is designed for the whole family in mind, so you can use it with a baby or an older adult. This thermometer can give results in seven seconds which is still fairly fast. It can do a reading on the forehead or underarm. A forehead reading is not very popular but can still give you accurate results and may be easier for a sick child to cooperate with.

There are many things to consider when purchasing a thermometer. You will want one that is easy to use and fool proof. Many times you may be wakened in the middle of the night and you may be half asleep, so fumbling with anything complicated might not be convenient for you. Sometimes buying a thermometer with removable disposable tips can be trying at times. If you run out and are having trouble finding them in the store to refill, your thermometer will not work without them, and because fevers often happen with no warning, it might be a better idea to have one that is error proof and easier to use in all environments. You will also want to consider a travel size thermometer, so that you can take it on the go and have room to put it in diaper bags and purses if need be.

Splash Pad - The Fastest Way to Save a Child’s Life This Summer

March 15, 2010

The Fastest Way to Save a Child’s Life this Summer

There is a new trend growing and I like it. You see I worry about the same things other parents worry about. I also get distracted by the same things other parents get distracted by and if you are like me a pool can be one of a parents worst nightmares.

Every year during the spring and summer months, Children in America drown in their own backyard swimming pools. While many states have passed laws about pool safety and the necessity of fencing, it is not required in every state. Even with proper fencing in place, accidents still happen far too often. When pool fences are first constructed most families keep them locked consistently, but unfortunately, after a period of time, many families lose focus on the importance of locking fences.

While pool fences can prevent some injuries and deaths, they frequently offer a false sense of security. A simple latch on top can be opened by a child just as easy as by an adult. It takes seconds to pass through a pool fence and into the water.

Aside from the dangers related to unfenced pools, the depth of the water is also a hazard to young children. Most backyard swimming pools measure four to eight feet in depth, which is more than enough to take the life of a child.

All children love to play in water, but their playtime should not be unsafe. Backyard swimming pools are both dangerous and potentially life-threatening. Adults and parents must watch children in swimming pools constantly to ensure their safety. Regrettably, parents are sometimes incapable of watching their children every second they are in the water, and accidents do happen. A parent walks away to answer the phone or the door and a child is lost. It is not fair.

There is an emerging market for a new, safer alternative to swimming pools called splash pads. Splash pads allow children to have the same recreational fun with water but with little to no risk of drowning.

The most significant advantage of splash pads vs. swimming pools is safety, as many splash pad production companies are trying to promote. Hundreds of children are accidentally killed each year in their own backyard swimming pools. This statistic is shocking and must be changed.

Splash pads allow children to play in water without constant parental supervision. It is a fairly new idea, so splash pads are not yet mainstream, but it is a market expected to rise rapidly. Kids can now have spring and summertime fun a safer way!

In addition to the safety benefits of splash pads vs. swimming pools, there is a momentous cost difference between the two. Swimming pools cost tens of thousands of dollars to build and childproof, as well as hundreds a year to maintain. Splash pad kits are a one-time purchase and require much less maintenance. They also use much less water than a swimming pool.

The facts are fairly straightforward: we can decrease the amount of child drownings each year by purchasing and promoting splash pads-a safer and more economical choice than backyard swimming pools.

Can Bedtime Stories Harm Children’s Development?

March 14, 2010

For hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, parents have known that bedtime stories help kids relax and fall asleep more easily. They can also help develop reading skills and in emotional child development, but you may not be aware that bedtime stories also act as a form of hypnosis. In which case the content of some of the stories we share with our children may need to be re-examined.

Research around brain waves has revealed that there are 4 main wavelengths or types of brainwaves, divided into predominant speed ranges Delta, Theta, Alpha and Beta. Delta being the slowest brainwave, while Beta brainwaves are much shorter and faster.

As adults we spend most of our waking, consciousness in the alert Beta state. When we are dreaming, however, in deep hypnosis, meditating, or “in the zone” such as occasionally happens in sports or music, we enter the Theta state. This also occurs as we are drifting into sleep and just as we are waking up.

Personal development experts tell us that these are the most effective times to repeat affirmations, use visualisation or review our goals. Because we are in the Theta state, the positive messages get past the filters of the conscious mind and can plant helpful suggestions directly into the subconscious.

When a child is between the ages of 2 and 6, their brainwaves are predominantly in the Theta state, which helps explains their rich imagination and creativity at this stage of child development.

From six to twelve years of age, children’s brainwaves accelerate to the Alpha state.

As adults the Alpha state occurs when we meditate, daydream or enter the lighter states of hypnosis or highway hypnosis as you may have experienced when you drift off when driving a familiar route.

Children between 2 and 12 therefore, are typically in the same brainwave states as adults are when in hypnosis, meditation or day dreaming. Which are precisely the states where we become most suggestible.

What makes this even more important is that bedtime stories are the last thing your child will hear before falling asleep and will play in the subconscious part of their mind all night.

During the golden age of child development, where they unquestionably believes in magic, Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy, you have a golden opportunity to program them for maximum success. Or, on the contrary, careless, negative words and influences can become harmful hypnotic suggestions that form powerful obstacles to the developing personality. Even after children begin to reach the age of reason they generally go in and out of hypnosis fairly regularly, using their imaginations to amuse themselves and spending a lot of time “in their own little worlds.”

“Perhaps, the best way to understand the importance of bedtime stories is to look back and recall some of your own favourite stories from childhood,”

says Sandra Dye, Psychotherapist and Child Expert, Developer of the:5-Step Parenting System - Stay Connected To Have Influence.

“As an adult, you may even notice that some of the messages in your favourite stories have played out in your life in some instrumental way.”

What becomes clear therefore is the need to be very aware of the suggestions we are giving our children that will have an effect on their adult life. Are you for example through bedtime stories, suggesting to your children that the world is full of opportunity or a scary place?

The Financial Fairy Tales series are examples of children’s books which have been written to help empower children through the discovery of positive values and life affirming messages around money and business.

Consider carefully the positive beliefs and values that you would wish your children to grow up with. Whether developing their self image, confidence or their understanding about what is possible or beyond their reach. Positive, empowering messages will create positive, empowering beliefs.

Ahead of the Curve: Pink Paisley Bedding in the Nursery

March 14, 2010

During the earliest stage of decorating a child’s nursery, wise parents resist the temptation to begin actively browsing online for bedding before they have at least a basic idea about what sort of environment they wish to create for their daughter. Those who are not particularly interested in a theme for baby’s space should think about what sort of pattern they might want to use.

This is not an easy decision, given the fact that the market now offers so many different and equally beautiful designs from which to choose. Are you interested in a vintage design, or would you prefer something more modern for the room? Those who find that both options sound quite appealing might want to consider selecting linens that work well in a variety of settings, such as pink paisley baby bedding.

Depending on the colors used, paisley is one of those very special fabrics that has the ability to produce stately and traditional or distinctly funky and very contemporary baby girl bedding. If you long to fashion a subdued and classically feminine room for your little girl, then consider pink paisley bedding that uses a light colored palette and generally limits the number of colors to a scant two or three.

Shoppers who want a bright and bold space should definitely pick one of the many paisley patterns that combine pink with a plethora of other colors, which together dazzle the eye. Whatever type of pink paisley you choose, you are certain to realize right away why this centuries old print, which originated in Kashmir, has won over generation after generation of admirers.

Unfortunately, the fun that goes along with shopping for nursery gear is often eclipsed by very real concerns about money. Crib bedding need not cost a fortune, but decorators who manage to stick to their budgets do so because they ultimately understand that buying a crib set is the best way to keep expenses in check.

Linen collections combine all of the bedding your daughter will need as she begins life in her pretty nursery. Many ensembles add well matched accessories that really help you to dress the entire room without spending hours mixing and matching a la carte items. In an astonishingly short period of time you will be pleased to find yourself in immediate and direct possession of a beautiful pink paisley refuge.

As much fun as shopping for nursery bedding can be, parents must always keep in mind budget concerns. Crib bedding doesn’t have to be expensive, and decorators learn that buying a bedding ensemble is a great method for reining in costs.

With different color pairings, paisley patterns appear on staid classic textiles and on warm contemporary ones, making for a wide variety of paisley-printed baby girl bedding. When you want to create a traditionally girly room for your baby daughter, give thought to a pastel pink paisley that combines with only two or three other colors for a subtle effect.

The hardest part of bedding shopping now can be deciding which pattern, design or color would work best given so many equally beautiful choices. Would you prefer a modern and eye-catching design or a more traditional, vintage room? If you find it hard to decide, you may want to think about a versatile choice, like Pink paisley baby bedding.

How to Know If Your Child is Depressed

March 14, 2010

Every parent’s main wish is to make sure their children are happy and healthy; however, childhood depression is being seen now more than ever. And the number of depressed children continues to rise. What is even more shocking is that your own child may be depressed right now and you may not know. So if you are worried that one of your children may be dealing with feelings of depression, there are several options available to you and your child. But no matter what choice you make, the sooner you take action, the better the chance your son or daughter has for making a healthy recovery. Again, since the number of children experiencing feelings of depression is doing nothing but climbing, it is imperative the parents of depressed children actively manage their child’s mental illness quickly and effectively.

Recognizing the Symptoms

The key to successfully treating childhood depression is recognizing the symptoms of this mental disorder. First of all, a child who is depressed will have experienced the symptoms listed below for a lengthy time period and these symptoms will have had a negative impact on their daily life. Of course, the manifestation of depression symptoms can come about in many ways, such is in your child’s overall disposition, appearance, behavior, and state of mind. For instance, a young child who once enjoyed certain activities may have begun to shy away from them, without providing any good cause or justifiable reason. This in turn causes their world to become a great deal smaller and lonelier. There is also the physical symptoms to consider. A depressed child may have lost a significant amount of weight, drastically reduced the amount of food they eat, complaints of digestion issues, headaches or migraines, and trouble getting a healthy night of uninterrupted sleep.

Usually, young children who are depressed show their state of mind through their physical appearance as opposed to older children because younger children are not as capable of clearly expressing their thoughts and feelings as older children.

Seeking Treatment for the Depressed Child

It is important to become knowledgeable about the symptoms of and ways to treat depressed children in order to help your own child. A good way to start is by talking to a mental health professional who is experienced in treating depressed children. Most often they will request that you bring your child in for several diagnostic visits.

There are also ways to help your depressed child cope at home. You can start by keeping an open line of communication between you and your depressed child, so he or she does not feel that they have to face their problems alone. Of course, learn about what your child likes to do for fun and take an interest in it. And always give and advice and listen when the situation calls for it.

Childhood depression is a very real and commonly occurring problem in today’s society, so it is important to take the signs of a depressed child seriously. By gaining a greater understanding of this mental condition, you can get a handle on your child’s mental illness early on, increasing their chance for recovery.
