Infant Parenting

March 16, 2010

Infants are little explorers who are curious about their environment and constantly travel on all their fours to learn and experience what the world has to offer them. Being parents our concern for our little angel is quite evident, we build a protective fence around them to guard them against any injury or danger, but we often don’t realize that we might be hindering their learning abilities by doting over them. It is essential to keep a watch on them and always be at an arms length to protect them, however, providing them some freedom to explore on their own, would build a strong and trusting relationship between you and your child.

Embarking on a new journey of parenthood is fascinating, yet full of challenges. And, despite the helpful parenting tips or books, we often find ourselves perplexed and inadequate of handling our little bundles of energy. This article aims at providing an in-depth knowledge of how parents can nurture their infants efficiently, without confronting too many road-blocks.

Mother’s are the best teacher, as befittingly put; you can be your infant’s teacher. Introduce new surroundings, sounds, and expressions to your infant as soon as they are few days old. Each day, introduce a new room and communicate about the surroundings to your cub. What a delight it brings, when they react to you with their gurgles, or smiles and sometimes use their under developed speech skills. Repeating this process will efficiently nurture their brain development and they would actively participate in new and complex tasks with ease and confidence.

Talking, reading and singing to your infant from the initial months of their life, will help them build well-developed language skills. They can become gregarious and better adapted to their social environment as they grasp the ability to communicate efficiently, because you encouraged them.

Scientists have learned that alert, active infants have better capacity to learn, express and share when their mothers’ are in an emotionally happy state. Therefore, it’s imperative for mothers to avoid any emotionally distressing stage, be it postpartum blues, or wrongful habits of eating or drinking. Brief periods of difficulty will occur, and it will not harm your child, rather negative emotions can provide an emotional learning to your infant. However, you must rewind quickly to a normal emotional state, before it gets into a nasty spell.

Imbibing good values in your children is essential for their successful lives. Avoid or quit habits like smoking or drinking that would injure the “absolute” health of your infant. Eating healthy diet which includes vegetables and fruits, fish, lean meat, nuts, raisins, low-fat cheese, yogurt, low-fat milk, cereals and grains will not only benefit your family’s health, but soon you discover a new you- a much more energetic, happy and youthful looking woman.

Never reprimand your infant, as their brain is inadequate to understand the cause-effect relationship. Remove her from situations where she can be injured. And, explain to her in a strict tone not to repeat her action, continue this behaviors whenever required, but never hit or shake your infant, this may cause severe brain and nerve damage.

What Are the Best Educational Toys For Your Child?

March 15, 2010

You want the best for your child, right? When choosing educational toys for your child, you also want to select ones that will benefit your child the most. The problem is that the “best” educational toys can meet different criteria for different children. Here are some features that you should consider in your quest for finding toys that will teach your child effectively and responsibly:

1.Educational toys that maintain your child’s health and safety

It’s crucial to keep your child safe while he or she is learning via educational toys. This is true of both “traditional” toys and high-tech ones. Ensure that toys are made of safe materials that lack parts and chemicals that could be harmful to your child. Plastics should be of a particular concern. While today’s toy companies often use cheap plastics to cut their production costs, experts have linked some of the chemicals used in these toys to serious illness.

2. Educational toys that are effective

By definition, educational toys should teach. Unfortunately, some toys don’t teach effectively, and some don’t teach at all! So look for educational toys that boost your child’s knowledge base and can do so efficiently. Unfortunately, too often we don’t learn how ineffective a toy is, until after we’ve spent a small fortune on it. So do your homework before buying educational toys for your tot. Read reviews and ask your friends and relatives which toys have been most effective for their own children. As a word of caution, keep in mind that many so-called “educational” toys are quite entertaining, but don’t actually teach anything.

3. Educational toys that are age-specific

Yes, some children’s physical and cognitive development is faster or slower than the rate that’s typical for kids their age. But generally children arrive at certain developmental milestones, at roughly the same time. So look for toys that are designed for specific age groups. This will help to maximise a toy’s learning potential for your child. You can usually find these recommendations printed on the toy’s packaging.

4. Educational toys that are fun.

Unfortunately, many of us have been conditioned to believe that learning can’t be fun. Well, it CAN be! If your child is having fun while learning, then his or her motivational level will be optimized, thus optimizing how much learning occurs. From building blocks to educational software, if children are having fun, then they’ll stay engaged in the activities. Meanwhile, if toys are boring then your child will likely set them aside just as they would other “not fun” toys.

5. Educational toys that are eco-friendly.

Look for toys that can be partially or fully recycled. Too many toys end up in landfills, where they emit chemicals that are harmful to the environment and the people in it. By choosing toys that can be recycled, you’re not only benefiting your children, but also the world at large.

Finding the “best” educational toy will require you to do your homework. But the end result is that your child will learn, and that learning won’t just benefit him or her.

How to Handle a Family

March 15, 2010

Overall is the daily living with others in a family, the job, friends, grant parents, babies and pets a very pleasureful happening, and it is for sure worth all the good things of every single individual, to make it better and playful for all the ones, who are living there. Everybody makes a wonderful carrier, has awesome friends, give parties here and there, and the kids make it through the grades and also do not take any dangerous drugs or try to often miss school. It is a pure enjoyment, being involved and live through it, together every day of the year.

This is the absolute best condition, and for sure the dream of everybody, who loves to live in a happy and stable environment.

But there are things happening and unpredicted at any time, where some stress will occur and problems appear, and so people loose their strings. It must not be big. But to whatever happens, a proper way of handling it needs always to be worked out fast. This will occur here and there with everybody in this family. Somebody did not make it through the grades, somebody else threw a football in the big window of a supermarket, the lady of the house is thinking, that her husband has a girlfriend, and the unpaid bills from the son, having no job, are all stacking up over the heads. The longer it takes to handle it, and get it properly fixed, the more worse the situation will grow.

Several of these little or bigger disasters can get handled easily and with a smile, because a real danger did not occur. But there are always situations, which keep on not getting handled and then drag on for a long time. It happens, that nobody likes to talk about it anymore. “It is just how it is”, becomes the apathetic frame of mind. But these are the special secrets, which build up lies, heart attacks and are causing sleeplessness. And every other new occuring situation, small or large, will make it even worse.

It is easy to say, “That’s how it has always been in an American middle class family”. But it isn’t, and the mood of every individual involved drops down more and more and all good feeling from the past are disappeared. Now life becomes a more tough routine of actions. Wake up on time, go shopping, feet the cat, pay your bills, wash the laundry, do your homework, but be also a nice girl, whenever needed.

How can this now get resolved back into a higher state of beingness, where happiness and being playful, can give back the real big pleasure?

It has to get changed right there !

Such a family has to work it out together, and look at all the outpoints of each single individual. Nobody in this moment, should take pills or drink alcohol. And a list of actions has to be written for all the assigned duties, for which individual handles what situation. And if help is needed, it has to be worked out too. This will always become a bit like a serious activity, but will not turn out too bad, because nobody may prevent trying to find and DO the proper handlings for the already known outpoints. Just honesty and participation is needed. All the outpoints are understood, and whatever else is missing, it still can be said.

After such a meeting things may happen, where family members start a bit upsetting each other, because the confront level came up and nobody wants to be the one, getting called the bad guy. But sane people will normally do fine, having the attention on getting it all under control and handled, and can tell about their success to all others. And it should be done a meeting every week, to talk about the progress of things or asking for help. Finally working as a team, everything will turn out fine.

This is the moment, the family re-unions completely back as a team, sticking together as never before and liking each other so much, as it would be a new life and family, one can be really proud of.

But there is still something else, what the family can do, and this is going on a nice vacation to somewhere beautiful in this world. It could be one of the outstanding Beaches in Florida, and in a nice Hotel with good food, enjoying it all together and collecting some new impressions, which can be take home for a long time to remember.

What You Should Know About Cinco de Mayo Games

March 14, 2010

Kids should be able to enjoy Cinco de Mayo, too. How about making the day even more fun for them with some games to play? Some can even be fun for adults, so invite any adults present to participate.

Split Open the Pinata

Everyone loves to try to break the pinata. Blindfold each participant when it is his or her turn. Slowly spin them around a few times and hand them a bat or broomstick. Point them in the general direction of the pinata and make sure no one gets in the way. Depending on how many people you have lined up to try, you may want to either use a timer or count how many tries each person gets.

The Mexican hat relay is another great game for using up any extra energy. You can pick up a couple sombreros at your local party store or draw a some on sheets of paper. Split everyone who wants to play into two even teams. Set each hat down at the far side of the room. Racing against each other, players must run to the hat, dance around it in a circle three times, and then race back to tag the next person. The first team whose members have all completed the task is deemed the winner.

A scavenger hunt can be fun. Gather some items for the teams to find that are related to Mexico in some way. You could use avocados, dried chili peppers, paper sombreros, and so on. Make sure you have enough of each item for the number of teams you will have. This is a great game for pairing up adults with kids. Write out clues that will give them ideas of where to find each item on the list. The first team back with all the items wins.

Set up a coloring area for the kids. Provide plenty of crayons and coloring pages of Mexican themed pictures. Other fun things to keep kids occupied may include maracas they can play with, colorful ponchos and hats they can dress up in, and music to listen to.

Cinco de Mayo should be fun for everyone. Provide fun party favors for everyone, young and old. Maracas, inexpensive party sombreros or other fun items will keep the party atmosphere alive. Let the music play and encourage everyone to dance if they want.

After all that fun and dancing your guests will need to eat and drink! Have finger foods waiting in the wings for everyone to eat. Put together a few great appetizers like salsa with chips, cheese quesadillas and the all time party favorite, nachos. You cannot beat these favorites when it comes to pleasing your guests.

Cinco de Mayo recipes can just be for fun or you can go authentic. Traditional dishes should include corn, beans, peppers and other staples in the Mexican diet. Keep it simple and enjoy your guests.

Your Cinco de Mayo party is sure to be a hit with all the fun and games. Take time to plan it out so everyone has a grand old time. It will be well worth all the effort once you see the joyful guests heading back home, wishing the party would not come to a close.

Mexican recipes are a great change of pace and nothing makes them better than a wonderful Mexican Holiday calibration. If you like an excuse to get dressed up and have a good time why not try throwing your own Cinco de Mayo parties and if your having a party you’ll need plenty Cinco de Mayo recipes. http://www.MexicanFoodRecipes.org When it has to be Real Authentic Mexican Food

When Should Kids Move Out Of Their Parents House?

March 14, 2010

There isn’t an exact age for when children should move out of their parents home. However, leaving the house is something that normal and healthy most young adults think about at this stage. The age at which a person moves out of the house is really dependent upon the emotional state and financial wherewithal of the new adult, as well as the relationship between the parent and young adult.

If you situations there are difficult family types in which the teenagers and parents don’t see eye to, and this tends to create an unnatural and on healthy situation for everybody involved.

A typical occasion for young adults from healthy families to move out seems to be around graduating from high school followed by moving away to live in a dorm at college. For most students in college this is the last and final move from the family’s home. For others students they attend college but stay living at the family house because it’s necessary to do this so that the student can go to school, work and saves money for when they graduate college. These days the cost of living and other expenses are much, much higher than they’ve ever been before in recorded history. In general, the average income of college graduates and others in a number of experts fields has not kept up with the rising cost of inflation and living expenses.

Some college and university graduates achieve degrees and advanced fields. Most of the students are able to achieve this while living in their own home. The situations for other graduates might make staying in that family home a thing that will enable them to achieve their graduate degree.

Regardless if high school grads attend university, college or other job market training, there still are other factors which play a role in the age of which a young adult leaves the family house. Some young adults just require a little extra time to generate enough money through part-time jobs to become stable enough to move out of their home. Most of the jobs that are available with little to no work experience tend to offer only entry-level pay which increases the amount of time it requires to save money. In addition most young people also have the matter of finding a roommate. When young adults and their parents have a solid healthy relationship there’s a lot less of our hurry to find a roommate who is reckless and over party. On the other hand, young people often wish to have a significantly different style of life from what they know with their parents and tend to move away much sooner.

Young adults who choose to live in their parents home does not generally give them a sense of living independently. However just because children still live at home with their parents does not mean that they live as young children in their parents home. There are still parents who encourage independence, and there are young adults who follow it, and are able to live in their parents homes as young adults. This requires common sense, understanding people, and teamwork; however it is achievable.

Some young adults once they have hit a certain age need to move out right away. They often don’t even mind finding the least expensive condo in a poor neighborhood and share the expenses with anybody who will be their roommate. While others still choose to wait until they can afford something decent they can be proud of in a much nicer neighborhood without the hassles of having a roommate. Most children who are raised in nice safe neighborhoods or even higher-end urban areas will often prefer to wait until they can financially achieve living away from high crime and dirty areas. Most of the parents of these young adults are thrilled to allow their children to live at home for as long as it takes for this very reason.

Some kids even feel some sort of sense of responsibility to help the parents and stay at home for a little while longer. Young adults whose parents have become recently widowed or divorced or have had recent financial upsets sometimes choose to stay at the house sometime longer so they can help out.

Parents are also different. Some folks are thrilled to have their kids even though they’re grown stay at home as long as they choose to. They’re also very much aware that moving out of the home is still a normal and healthy thing for kids to do. Some of these folks living under the same roof as one thing different from being otherwise independent. Others can swing the other way and have all the responsibilities for their kids such as doing their laundry or filling out their income tax statements for their kids just as if they were not adults. Furthermore, there are another group of parents who feel that their children should leave the home as soon as they have completed high school. Out of this group most believe that their children should have no assistance whatsoever. While others still from this category might be more than willing to have their kids come home for assistance with financial matters, job seeking opportunities or even assistance with lending a free laundry machine.

There is no exact age at which children must grow up or must leave their parents home. The factors are dependent upon all the people who are involved in the entire situation. In reality most young people want to move at their own pace but ultimately into their own place. In many typical parents do encourage independent living away from the family home. These days, however, we are all living in a time where expenses and costs of living are much higher than many new starting out people can afford and it’s becoming increasingly common for college graduates to stay home for a while even after graduation. The thing that’s most important for establishing a time for when a young person is ready to move out isn’t necessarily a set age that is expected, the most important thing is that without feeling pressured everybody is on board with moving at the pace is best for everybody and without feeling the pressure to apologize to anybody.

Clues For Helping Young Children Eat Organic Foods

March 14, 2010

Are you the parent of a young child who you would like to eat healthy? If you are, you may be interested in introducing your child to organic foods. Unfortunately, for some parents this can be easier said than done. If you are finding it difficult to introduce your toddler or preschooler to organic foods, please continue reading on, as a useful of helpful tips are highlighted below.

One way to help your child get use to eating organic foods is to not tell them that they are doing so right away. Of course, you want your child to know that they are eating healthy and it is important for children to know what organic foods are, but you may want to wait until your child has already decided that they like eating organic, which they should. This is important for toddlers and preschoolers, as some may be turned away by the word “organic,” especially if it is a new word for them. There is really no reason why you need to tell your child that they are eating organic soap, when you could just simply say soup.

Introducing your child, especially young children, to organic foods slowly is another great approach. If you are making the switch to organic foods, consider making it a transition, instead of a traditional switch. Although your child will likely not be able to tell the difference in organic foods, some children are able to do so. This is where there are benefits to slowly introducing a child to organic foods. For example, start with snacks or one meal a day, such as an organic breakfast.

Speaking of snacks, they are a great way to get your child stimulated about eating organic foods. Did you know that there are a number of organic snacks, many of which are designed for toddlers and preschoolers? There are. For example, Earth’s Best Organic offers fruit snack bars, organic cookies, and organic crackers. Also, most of their products for toddlers and preschoolers come with Sesame Street themes. Snacks are a positive and fun way to introduce young children to organic foods. Also, consider offering your child a reward for eating all or most of their organic meals. This is great for picky eaters. What you can do is offer an organic cookie or an organic cracker as a reward if all or most of your child’s lunch or dinner is eaten.

Another easy, yet fun way to get your child excited about eating organically is by letting them help you shop. This is ideal if you will be doing your shopping locally. When using this approach, it is best to visit a specialty organic food store, as no matter what your child chooses it should be healthy and natural. For smaller children, point them in the right direction. For example, set your child in the cereal aisle if you are looking to buy cereal, and so forth.

The above mentioned ways are just a few of the many ways that you can successfully introduce your child to organic foods. These approaches are ideal for those at the toddler and preschool levels. Many find that this is the age range that is most difficult to make the switch to organic foods, as many children at this age dislike change, especially where their food is concerned.

Considering a Move to Vancouver, BC

March 13, 2010

Are you considering a move to Vancouver? Are you being head hunted by a company that really wants you to move to Vancouver? Do they earnestly want you to join their firm? Are you interested, very interested, flattered, but something is giving you red flags and causing you to be cautious? Have you viewed every option? What is it that you’re missing from your to do list?

Let’s take a moment to look at things logically and separate the gut from the mind. Here it is that you got an offer on the table in front of you. You have some numbers to look at. You’ve had some time to look at things such as the cost of living in Vancouver, the benefits of living in Vancouver, and relocation assistance from Vancouver movers. All of this information you will have to work through and feel satisfied after asking a lot of questions.

Money is important and you need to think if this relocation to Vancouver fixture financial Realty as well as all of your personal financial goals. Perhaps we are now you’ve become accustomed to a certain lifestyle. Is this a lifestyle that you would choose to maintain or are you willing to choose some things to sacrifice in order to be able to move to Vancouver? Take a look at your paycheck that your prospective company is putting on the table just to make sure that the figures translate properly and to after-tax dollars. This is the money that you’re actually going to have in your pocket. You also need to understand the base costs for housing in Vancouver, local transportation, meals, clothing, movies and other entertainment as well as everything else. Check the Internet to see what types of costs that are associated to things that you need to purchase a Vancouver. Go online and check some of the newspaper articles, go to the online version stores and pretend to shop for food, clothes, paying the rent, and going to a movie plus purchasing popcorn. Is your after-tax income going to be enough to provide for all of these things? Or perhaps it is more than enough and you will be able to tuck away more money into your savings account?

Aside from the income, review about how much this move is going to cost you. Is the company that you’re thinking of moving to going to pick up the tab for your movers to haul all of your items to Vancouver? Are they considering putting you into some type of temporary location just until you are able to find how about covering miscellaneous incidental costs? When you’re moving across the city, much less to undo part of the country, this costs a lot of money. In a lot of respects, you are going to be starting over plus you going to have to possibly get a new car, phone, cable, as well as many other new items. You must calculate how all of these onetime expenditures are going to affect your savings and cash flow.

When you’re moving to a new part of the country as a whole new set of cultural customs and normal everyday reality. A lot of things will be new to you even if you are from Canada. Things like provincial tax systems are completely different than they are in other provinces such as Alberta even things such as the BC medical coverage which is available to all residents of British Columbia only after a three-month waiting period. Your new company may cover a portion, a percentage, or none of the premium costs. Your company is likely to have its own benefit plan will complement the provincial medical coverage.

This is possibly one of the most stressful situations that you’ve been in and it most definitely life-changing. The decisions that you make will have an emotional impact on your entire family and all of your friends. Everyone’s tolerance for personal change is a different level and you will need to consider yours. Plus if it’s not just you how about the tolerance of your spouse and children? You really want to sell them into the idea of moving to a new place.

With all of the things that Vancouver has to offer, such as being a world-class city, home to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, home of Expo 86, and many other events which make Vancouver a cosmopolitan metropolis, there is a lot to decide. It’s just really important to know that the cost of living in Vancouver is the highest of anywhere in Canada.

Hidden Grove Elementary Talent Show a Big Hit With Bumper Stickers

March 13, 2010

This winter our school Hidden Grove Elementary decided to put on a fundraiser. We wanted to get the kids new musical instruments for the band and for private practice. But musical instruments can be expensive – we knew we would have to raise a lot of money. In this economy – holding a school fundraiser seems like a tough thing but families really do want to be involved.

We spent a little time thinking about what type of fundraiser to hold. It was important that we choose a fundraiser with minimal expenses and something that had families involved right from the beginning. With the popularity of American Idol and other talent TV shows, we decided a talent variety show would be an ideal choice. The kids and adults could compete to win trophies and we would have community leaders as judges. The entire school and community as a whole got very excited about the talent show fundraiser – so we knew we had a hit on our hands from the very start.

One of the biggest challenges you face with a fundraiser is getting the word out about it. It was important that we not only get the families involved but also to invite other members of the community to attend. Selling tickets was the top way we were making money. With a large auditorium we knew we could make a lot of ticket sales – if only many people could find out about the event. That’s when we came up with the bumper sticker idea.

We ordered a bumper sticker announcing the Talent Show with the date, time and ticket price and a contact telephone number. Our bumper sticker was in our school colors, purple and yellow so people would instantly know it was for Hidden Grove Elementary. The bumper sticker started out as a success right away. Every teacher was given a stack of bumper stickers to give to children to bring home to parents. Soon we saw bumper stickers on every family car as they pulled up to pick up kids. The school office kept a stack of bumper stickers for visitors and other school staff members. Everyone working for the school put a bumper sticker on their car.

The bumper sticker became so popular in part because people realized it was a way to support the community. With bright colors it was easily seen. Our fonts were fun and eye catching. We had lots of choices when we selected designing our bumper sticker – which was ideal. So we think we really chose the best of the best. What was ideal was that we chose a bumper sticker that attracted so many people in the community and our school family.

The night of our Talent Show we opened to a full house! It was such a thrill to look out into that audience and to watch the kids and adults perform. Knowing that we were raising money for musical instruments the kids would enjoy was a wonderful feeling. And our bumper sticker was a great key to our success. We know we’ll be using one for our annual Spring Carnival this April!

Phobias Can Be Developed in the Womb

March 13, 2010

Biological evolutionists have discovered that unborn crickets can gain a fear of spiders based on their mother’s harrowing experiences. And, contemplate that humans too can acquire phobias before they are born.

In humans, research suggests the widespread fear of arachnophobia and ophidiophobia, spider and snake phobias respectively may be innate. According to a research in 2008, both adults and children could detect images of snakes or spiders among a variety of non-threatening objects rapidly than they could locate frogs, flowers or caterpillars.

According to anthropologist Lynn Isbell of the University of California, suggests ophidiophobia dates back million of years ago, when snakes were the first predators of early primates, which contributes to the evolution of our advanced vision — useful for spotting snakes

When pregnant crickets were subjected to predatory risk in the lab environment, the mother transferred the information of the harrowing experience and the odds of survival to her unborn. It is assumed that during the stressful conditions, fear is passed down, by the release of a hormone that influences the development of the embryo.

Freud argued that anxiety develops at the time of birth as mentioned in “The trauma of birth” taking on his cue Otto Ranks developed on this study and proposed birth as a psycho-physical experience. Being the first traumatic experience of life, it requires repression. It closes the unpleasant sensations of parturition, which consequently embeds in the unconscious mind and provides a background to all subsequent sensations.

The root causes of Claustrophobia is closely associated with the idea of being inside the mother and the traumatic birthing experienced faced by the new born that goes way far in his adult life.

Behaviourists argue that Claustrophobia is a fear of walls and things, not people. And, it is the anguish of space-time, of being crushed by the enormities of the cosmos.

According to famous Jesuit anthropologist, Teilhard de Chardin-

“The great secret pre-occupation of modern man is to find some means to escape from a shut-in world, from the futility of a ‘dead-end’, the fear of immobility, the anguish of being in a hermetically sealed world, unable to find a way out.” The quest for an ‘issue’ (Fr.) is always with him, for an escape, opening, outlet, outcome, end or solution. “Human beings experience themselves” he says, “as miners trapped through an accident deep down in the earth. For these miners to summon up the courage needed for the difficult struggle to climb back up the shaft they have to pre-suppose two things: some opening exists at the other end, and when that opening is reached, there will be air to breathe again.” Man may suspect that “the opening at the other end leads to what is inhuman or subhuman”, “deformed and on a level lower than the noblest aspirations of man.”

With researches like these, it’s easier to believe in God than evolutionary theory. It’s a strange thought to ponder that memory is being transferred genetically or through a hormone, without an experience or a learning.
