For Moms: How to Help Update Your Daughter’s Wardrobe For Spring 2009

January 31, 2009

After a very cold, icy, snowy winter what girls’ heart (both young and old alike) doesn’t turn to thoughts of spring fashion and cheerful, bright colors? Even little girls, teens and tweens are only too happy to finally pack away all the black, brown and gray and liven up their fashion palette for spring. After all, it’s the first sign of spring long before the first flowers and blades of grass push their way past the snow.

Girls Want to Express Themselves: Help Them do it in Age-Appropriate Ways

January 31, 2009

You know your daughter or granddaughter wants to express herself and her personality through her clothes and everything she does. You’ve already seen how picky she can be about what she wears to school or just to hang out with her friends on weekends. Fashion is important to most girls, tweens and teens and now more fashion choices are available.

However, as a parent you may not feel comfortable with the scary Goth-chick look, ripped jeans or overly provocative fashions now available to underage girls. How can you encourage her individuality, her confidence and sense of personal expression in a way that’s fashionable and age-appropriate at the same time?

First, when she knows she is valued and appreciated she will be more likely to take your direction. Second, experts in child psychology say girls encouraged to speak up, share their thoughts and express themselves are more likely to feel self confident and exhibit healthy self esteem. Finally, when she sees an example of confident and loving people around her, she has a great example to follow. When you’re confident – she will be more likely to be confident.

One fashion look that’s become popular among women the last couple years and has trickled down to girls is the surprise of unexpected color. It started with women who wore a black and white outfit and “popped it” with a bright red or yellow purse. Now, almost anything goes when it comes to pairing color in an outfit. That jolt of unexpected color is usually seen in a bag, shoes or a belt. Girls now look for ways to pop their outfits with a jolt of bright color

Enter St. Louis designer James Androuais, age 24, who wanted to encourage girls in a positive way with his business. He saw the skyrocketing fame of MySpace and Facebook websites with girls, tweens and teens. Networking websites where conversations can go back and forth for hours. He noticed girls are constantly expressing with their words and in their appearance. So he created a fashion accessory both girls and parents can love. Now she can be unique, fashion forward and express her point of view all at the same time.

Meant to be worn with jeans, that ever-present fashion staple among girls of all ages, Xpressit belts provide a pop of bright, unexpected color and a little extra. Yes, the belts come in hot, fun colors girls, tweens and teens love including Mimosa Yellow (the “in” color for 2009), Classic Red, Aqua Blue, Limey Green, Bubblegum Pink and Perfect White. But it doesn’t stop there.

After choosing the color belt she wants she gets to choose from little Twistonz (about the size of a penny) that go in the grommet holes around the belt to create a one of a kind look. She can spell her name with Twistonz. If she’s an animal lover there are animal Twistonz with cute names. Does she love shopping? There are Twistonz with a high heel shoe, a purse and words like “Shopping Diva.” Love text messaging and her MySpace page? She can get Twistonz with popular sayings like “BFF,” “OMG” and more.

They have become so popular that XpressIt belts were chosen to be featured in a holiday gift bag loaded with goodies distributed to Hollywood moms with celeb-daughters like Debra Messing, Brook Shields, Heidi Klum and others.

Girls love clothing items and accessories that provide an opportunity to showcase her unique personality and style in ways that are fun and fresh. In a world where almost everything seems is mass-produced, having the ability to change the words and pictures on the belt she wears with her jeans makes her feel a little more special and important.

The possibilities are almost endless. Fortunately, the XpressIt Designs website at http://www.XpressItDesigns.com has an Ideas page where girls can get a little fashion inspiration so she can see the possibilities. Truthfully, she’s only limited by her imagination and how she wants to express herself.

Want to Express Yourself? Here’s How in a Cool Way Parents Will Approve

January 31, 2009

You know you love expressing yourself and your personality through your clothes and everything you do and say. You carefully choose your outfit for school or just to hang out with your best friends on the weekends. Fashion is important to most girls, tweens and teens and now more fashion choices than ever are available.

It’s great to express yourself but as a girl, you want to strive for a look that’s fresh and fun. Don’t be surprised if your parents don’t want to let you out of the house if you look like a creepy Halloween costume. Parents want you to express yourself too, but not in ways that look scary, messy or too old for your age. The right balance is important.

Let’s be honest. Being fashionable is truly making a statement without saying a word. What you wear tells people all about what you’re like. It can say, “I’m shy and I don’t want to be noticed.” And, if you look shy people will treat you that way. Or, your appearance can say, “I’m happy, I’m confident and I’m glad to meet you.” If you look confident – people know it immediately. Confident people make friends more easily and do better throughout their lifetime.

One popular fashion trend you see on girls, tweens and teens is the surprise of unexpected color. It started with grown up women who wore a black and white outfit and “popped it” with a bright red or yellow purse. Now, almost anything goes when it comes to pairing color with your outfit. Fashion-forward girls like you now look for ways to pop their outfits with a jolt of bright, happy color. That jolt of color is usually in items like belts and shoes.

American designer James Androuais created a fashion item both girls and parents can love. Now you can be unique, fashion forward and express your point of view at the same time. They have quickly become so popular that XpressIt belts were chosen to be featured in a holiday gift bag loaded with goodies distributed to Hollywood moms with celebrity daughters.

You probably love clothing items and accessories that provide a chance to show off your unique personality and style in fun, fresh ways. Being able to change the words and pictures on the belt you wear with your jeans lets you be yourself and be in-fashion. The Twistonz are easy to change and they stay where you put them until you decide to change them again.

Fashionista Daughters All the Rage in 2009

January 31, 2009

It was bound to happen. High fashion for your daughter. Girls have always been discerning when it comes to fashion (with a little help from you) but in recent years girls, tweens and teens are intent on making a real fashion statement. Notice celeb daughter Suri Cruise in her designer duds toddling across the pages of People and other celebrity laden magazines…

It was bound to happen. Why? Because moms are a lot more fashionable than a generation ago. There was a time when once women became parents they were automatically relegated to the ranks of frumpy and almost anti-fashion. It was considered a bit self-absorbed to be concerned about your own appearance once baby came along. No longer. Remember, it wasn’t long ago when we didn’t have “Desperate Housewives,” “Project Runway,” Victoria Beckham and other Hollywood examples of sexy motherhood.

And it was a welcome relief to millions of moms that they no longer were expected to abandon fashion and yes, even a little sexiness every day to be considered a good mom. Is it any surprise your daughters has watched your example, wants to follow your lead and she now expects a high fashion look, too?

However, most moms feel what’s appropriate for them doesn’t necessarily translate to your daughter’s look. After all, lacy, silk camisoles for the grammar school set lack a certain degree of modesty for girls. Many mother’s want to encourage their daughter’s fashion sense but in a way that’s age-appropriate. So, how do moms find fashion for their daughters’ that’s fun without buying another Hannah Montana T-shirt?

Almost as much as girls love looking great like mom they also love expressing themselves and their personality with their clothes. Letting them choose between what you believe are appropriate options is one way to keep her on the right track. Another is to let your daughter choose one special accessory to go with her jeans (a fashion staple) which gives her complete design flexibility.

Consider XpressIt belts found at http://www.xpressitdesigns.com with Twistonz give your daughter total flexibility expressing her personality and her mood with one special accessory. The belts come in a variety of hot fashion colors for Spring 2009. Including mimosa yellow, classic red, aqua blue, lime green and perfect white. Grommet holes all the way around the belt give girls a virtual canvas to affix the Twistonz, little discs made in America about the size of a penny with cute pictures, sayings and symbols.

Your daughter can choose the color(s) she likes best and the Twistonz provide her with an opportunity to express herself. From spelling out her name around the belt to Twistonz that express a passion for going green, sports, shopping and more. My favorites are the ones with popular text message sayings like “OMG,” “LOL” and “BFF.” Plenty of choices are available and the site features an Ideas page to inspire her and spark her creativity.

In fact, the belts are so hot they were featured in holiday gifts bags given to Hollywood celeb-moms like Heidi Klum, Brooke Shields and Debra Messing.

American designer James Androuais came up with the idea when he noticed the popularity of MySpace and Facebook and noticed how much girls love expressing themselves with their friends. Based in St. Louis, 22 year old Androuais says, “I wanted girls to have something that’s special, all their own and fun to wear.”

Having something cool and uniquely her own to wear is what girls want and need to make that same pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt or blouse look fresh for spring 2009. She can be updated for spring without purchasing a new wardrobe. ExpressIt belts also give girls, tweens and teens a fashion choice that’s wholesome and age appropriate.

A concern some engaged individuals may have when considering a fun casino hire for their wedding reception is when to fit the gaming into the reception. Preventative Maintenance Will Save You a Headache

January 31, 2009

The first thing that is generally thought of when “maintenance” is mentioned for a boat or automobile, engine work comes to mind. Engine maintenance is a clear cut, well known issue of most boat owners and those considering to become one. The less thought about, but equally important, maintenance to consider in keeping up the value of your boat is the cosmetic maintenance. Your boat could run perfectly, but if it has little dings and scratches throughout it, its value severely decreases. This fact is especially true to the owners of fiberglass boats, as the look of these boats should be pristine.

Preventative maintenance will certainly save you a headache later on. One thing to remember is that those who will be passengers on your boat must wear deck shoes. This is not merely a facade that they will need to seem like they’re getting the full experience, but the deck will scratch quite easily from street shoes, and is very difficult to polish out. Softer sole tennis shoes without any dirt on them would also work, as it’s the dirt from the street shoes that get ground into the deck that causes the scratches. It might be advantageous to have a few extra pairs handy for those who might not own their own, yet still want to enjoy the boat.

Regular maintenance on the exterior of your boat is something that is inevitable. At some point discoloration will occur from sun damage. This is easily remedied by using a good marine polish, and making sure that you get all of the polish off after you’re done. Sun damage can be held to a minimum if you dock your boat in a shady area or some sort of covered storage. The occasional coating of a marine wax will also be helpful in preventing sun damage.

Repairing scratches can either be simple or so severe that a professional fiberglass boat repair shop will have to be used. The easiest way to tell if a scratch is simple enough for you to be able to repair it yourself is if it’s the same color as the boat. This will mean that it is a scratch in the gelcoat, which is the exterior finish put on fiberglass boats. In that case, a rubbing compound or a polish will need to be used to fill it in. Remember when rubbing not to use excessive force, as that can push further into the gelcoat and cause more damage than was originally there. Instead, use a slow, light motion when applying the polish to be sure that you don’t go any deeper than necessary. If the scratch is white and has the texture of an orange or lemon peel, contact a professional repair shop immediately.

On top of the regular maintenance of the engine and mechanical parts of your fiberglass boat, be sure to take preventative measures to also maintain the beauty of it. Just a little regular cosmetic maintenance will insure the resale value of your boat, and make your boating experience the best that it can be.

Should America Go Back to Driver’s Ed?

January 31, 2009

As we get more populated, and as more teenagers are given their first car, the NEED for the population to go back to driver’s education is becoming more and more obvious. I’ve been thinking about writing this article for months, not really thinking anyone would read it, or would care. Perhaps maybe a “rant” but I know this isn’t just my opinion. I’ve decided to group these “pet peeves” of mine in the order they happen (on a DAILY basis).

SPEEDERS

Ok, do you speed? Slightly over the limit? Common, don’t lie, nobody is listening, and the police isn’t pointing their radar gun at you. Seriously, EVERY time I get on the highway, in EVERY state I’ve been to (and I’ve been to 25 of them) there are always speeders. The ONLY time the speed is at the limit is when the police are present!

Tip for those of you who CLAIM that they ALWAYS go the speed limit. You are considered SLOW traffic – GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE, FOOL!

TAILGATING

No, this isn’t the party on the tailgate of your pickup truck. This is when you are following TOO CLOSE to the car in front of you. It’s been a while since I was in driver’s ed, but I believe the general rule of thumb is that there must be 1 car length per 10 miles per hour between you and the person you’re behind. WHAT A JOKE! I think I’m the only one that remembers that part of the book!

I’ve seen people tailgate big-rig trucks SO CLOSE it actually looked like they were being towed!! I had one guy in Atlanta tailgate me so close I couldn’t see his headlights (and I drive a compact)! There were FOUR lanes to choose from, but he INSISTED to be right on my rear for 10 miles! Even slowing down to 10 miles UNDER the limit didn’t make him go away!! (I was NOT in the left lane.)

MERGING INTO TRAFFIC/CHANGING LANES

When you are entering the highway, it is YOU that must speed up (or slow down) to get into the flow of traffic … not the people that are already on the highway. Here, they even have the entry to and the exit from ON THE SAME 200 YARD STRETCH. Talk about dangerous!

And then there are the lane-changers! You know who you are … the ones that make my drive to and from work feel like I’m training for the Indianapolis 500! There have been days that I’ve wanted to check the front end of my car for a sign that read “Jump in here, and hit your breaks” because it happens EVERY day! If there’s six INCHES to spare, they’ll take it! Are you REALLY in such a hurry that you MUST be at least one car ahead of me?

TURNING

Big Pet Peeve … those fools that have NO IDEA what they’re doing when trying to turn left (or even care). If it’s rush hour and it’s bumper to bumper cars in the lane you must cross to turn left YOU CANNOT MAKE THE TURN! It’s ILLEGAL to go THROUGH the line of cars!

Also, if it’s a two-lane road and it’s bumper to bumper cars, WHY must you hold up EVERYBODY just for you? If you do this and you have a burning sensation in your ears, it’s because everybody else is cursing at you! GO AROUND make a U-turn at the light … what could be simpler?

Here’s another annoying one. If you’re planning to turn left, what the HECK are you doing in the right lane? (Or vice versa)

PARKING

It’s just amazes me how LAZY this country has become. There was this one time I was at the gym, and I watched this guy go around and around the parking lot looking for the closest spot to open up. Twenty minutes later, can you guess where I saw him? Running on the track! What a fool!

Those coveted handicap parking spots. Now this is a pet peeve of mine because I AM handicapped, and must use a cane to walk. You park in my spot and just casually walk into the store, I’m gonna put a glass bottle under your wheel! If you want those spots so bad, come on down to Georgia … all you need to be is FAT and you get a tag here. Never understood that! If you’re FAT you should HAVE to park FARTHER away … you need the exercise!

Of course I could come up with a whole bunch more rules that people have forgotten or don’t care about, but I think I’ve made my point, and I hope I’ve made a few of you smile. Personally, I’m waiting for the day when I have my limo take me everywhere and not worry about it anymore!

I’m being trained by an On-Line Multi-Millioniare (I was serious about the limo remark) if you’d like to join me, go to http://www.debt-to-rich.com

Why Can’t I Trust My Spouse: 5 Signs They Are Cheating

January 31, 2009

The person we marry is supposed to be the one we trust the most in the world. After all, didn’t our marriage vows include a line or two about trust and faithfulness? So, when you find yourself in a position whereby you don’t fully trust your spouse, it can be disconcerting to say the least.

When we face the loss of trust of someone we love, it can be difficult to put our finger on exactly why we no longer trust them. It may be something about the way they are acting. What they say - or don’t say. Regardless of how we come to the realization that we no longer trust our spouse, it can be a very painful realization, indeed. It leads to thoughts of the worst nature, such as wondering whether he or she may be cheating. Wouldn’t it be nice to know the truth? Only by knowing the truth will we be in a position to do something about it.

If you are asking yourself, “Why can’t I trust my spouse?”, here are 5 signs that they may be cheating:

1. Their schedule seems to include missing time:

The term “missing time” has become popularized by modern tales of UFO abduction. But, it can be applied in a much more mundane way to our daily lives. That is, when our spouse recounts their day or week to us but somehow leaves out large blocks of time. Maybe they don’t totally skip anything, but they sort of gloss over key parts. This type of behavior, if frequent, might mean that they are covering up something going on behind your back.

2. They come home with strange scents on their clothes:

If you have noticed that your spouse smells differently lately, you might have initially chalked it up to maybe their having a new co-worker with strong perfume or cologne. Or, maybe they have suddenly befriended a smoker somewhere along the way. Or, possibly they frequently come home smelling like an Italian restaurant (you know the smell) but you don’t remember having any fettuccine lately. Of course, the presence of a new smell on your spouse could merely be a sign of something absolutely benign. Or, it could mean that something is going on right under your nose.

3. They don’t look you in the eye when they say they love you:

If your spouse seems to be giving you less eye contact lately, that could be a sign that something is up. Eye contact is a subtle but important part of human communication. Turning away from eye contact just a bit too early could be a sign that your spouse is hiding something in his or her heart that they don’t want you to see. The next time you are with your spouse, look into his or her eyes for just an extra second or two longer than you normally do and see how they respond.

4. They fumble their words when you ask where they have been:

Of course, nobody likes to be checked up on every few minutes or hours: we all need our private moments. Still, when you ask your spouse about their day, you would expect him or her to be pretty open in answering that question. If your spouse is consistently tight-lipped on this point, it may be cause for concern.

5. They initiate lovemaking in irregular patterns:

Most couples who have been married for some time - for better or worse - fall into a fairly regular pattern of lovemaking. If your relationship had reached that point but now you find your spouse wanting to make love much less or much more often for no apparent reason - that could be a sign that something is going on.

Not being able to trust your spouse can be unsettling. What is worse is to suspect that they might be cheating. If your spouse exhibits one or more of these signs they are cheating, it is time to get to work in fixing your relationship.

You can fix your relationship with your spouse - even if they are cheating - using the advice from top relationship experts found at: www.in-your-arms-again.com.

10 Signs of a Cheating Spouse: Can Your Relationship Last?

January 31, 2009

If you suspect that your husband or wife is cheating, you are at the least feeling very angry right now. And, it wouldn’t be surprising if the mere thought of their being with someone else makes you feel emotionally devastated.

How can you tell whether your spouse is actually cheating on you? Of course, you cannot just ask them point blank whether or not they are: doing so will likely make them feel very defensive, regardless of what the truth is. And, even if asked, your spouse may just continue to lie (if they are indeed cheating on you) unless you present some indisputable proof that something is actually going on.

So, to help shed some light on the situation, here are 10 signs of a cheating spouse:

1. Their attention seems to drift away from you during conversations:

Spouses that are cheating have good reason to project their focus somewhere away from where you are together: they are thinking about someone else! Of course, if your spouse’s attention drifts away during conversation now and again, that is not cause for worry. But, if you find they are mentally vacant much of the time lately, you just might need to sit up and pay attention.

2. They avoid giving you eye contact:

A cheating spouse is a guilty spouse. No matter how they justify their ways to themselves, I guarantee that if your husband or wife is cheating - they are feeling guilty about it. And, guilty people don’t like to give eye contact, because they are afraid of being found out!

3. There is a sudden change in their spending habits:

Spouses that cheat have to find a way to fund their double-lives. If your spouse always seems to be short on cash for inexplicable reasons, watch out.

4. Your spouse’s clothes carry unusual odors:

Spending time with another lover means having experiences away from you. The smells of restaurants, bars, bowling alleys - wherever they meet - will tend to accumulate on their clothes.

5. You find unexplained receipts laying around:

This ties in with #3: if your spouse is cheating on you, they are likely spending money left and right. Mysterious receipts can act like a paper trail to their guilty deeds.

6. They frequently hang up the phone or end a call when you come into the room:

Spouses who cheat need to communicate with their new lovers. If your spouse frequently acts oddly when you come upon him or her during a phone conversation, be suspicious.

7. They own more than one mobile phone:

These days, it is not uncommon to own more than one mobile phone. Still, if your spouse owns more than one, ask them casually why they need two. Then, analyze the answer to see if it sounds truthful.

8. Your spouse suddenly wants sex more or less often than before:

People who are cheating may desire sex more or less often than they used to. Pay attention to sudden changes in their sexual behavior toward you.

9. They are particularly irritable or want to start a fight:

To repeat, a cheating spouse is a guilty spouse (see #2). Your spouse, if they are cheating, may unconsciously start fights with you in order to “justify” their cheating behavior by making you come across as a disagreeable or unpleasant person. Sounds weird, but it happens.

10. Your spouse suddenly changes their taste in music or clothes:

If your spouse is cheating, they are connected to a pipeline of new ideas and concepts about life from their new lover. That means music, fashion, books - you name it. Watch for signs they are changing their age-old habits in these areas.

If you suspect that your spouse is cheating, you are probably in a lot of pain. Whether you are feeling anger or sadness, both are signs you feel incredibly hurt. It may be hard to imagine your relationship recovering from this kind of a blow. However, there are ways to engage your spouse in an honest dialogue about his or her actions and then to move on to fix your relationship (if that is what you choose to do). Seek help from those who have been in your situation and made things right again.
